Appendix 8.4 – Crisis and Escalation Pathways
Immediate Escalation Indicators
Immediate consultation and escalation required when:
- Active suicide concerns identified
- Serious self-harm risk present
- Threats of abduction or violence
- Offender attempting offline contact
- Doxing/home address released
- Ongoing stalking or surveillance
- Child currently unsafe in home
- Significant functional impairment (e.g. unable to attend school, won’t leave house, not sleeping, severe mental health interference, self-policing internet, isolation, continuing to seek out engaging unsafely online, no supervision or adult intervention
- Severe mental health deterioration
Internal Escalation Procedures
- Notify supervisor immediately
- Complete high-risk consultation
- Document all safety concerns
- Review mandatory reporting obligations
- Coordinate with Cybertip/police where appropriate
- Develop immediate stabilization plan
- Schedule urgent follow-up
Emergency Intervention Considerations
- Contact emergency services where required
- Support caregiver stabilization
- Coordinate with police/child welfare
- Reduce isolation and ensure supervision
- Provide crisis resources
